"Currently, the subject of religious sentiments is a noteworthy educational issue, provided the Japanese government is ready to endorse a new policy for "Kokoro-no-Kyoiku". Since World War II, the topic of "religious sentiment" education has been frequently discussed. However, the main problem is the basis to describe religious sentiment. In short, to determine whether or not a specific religious faith is indispensable. From this point of view, it could be assumed that "religious sentiment" education in Japan would be classified into the following three types. The first type is characterized on the basis of aspecific religious faith without which, it completely rejects the concept of religious education. In this case, it is equal with denominational education. The second type of education seeks some common theoretical base from among various different standpoints of religious thought and even other philosophies or ethics. An important aim of this type of education is the development of individuality in society. The third type places emphasis on the true meaning of life, which is described as a feeling of "reverence(Ikei-no-nen). Respect for traditional Japanese customs is also important factor. The third type of "religious sentiment" education would probably be introduced into the Japanese public education system, if the laws of the educational foundation could be partially changed."
