dc.description.abstract |
The aim of this research was to reveal the perception of a young English teacher towards the motivation/ ‘yarigai’ (motivation, feeling, and/or positive attitude to consider something as worth doing) to work as an English teacher nowadays by means of Personal Attitudes Construct Analysis. The additional research was carried out on a university student who was taking a teacher training course; the
same method used in the first research was applied. As a result, it could be assumed that the teacher recognized the importance of self-improvement of English language skills though this perspective is not intrinsically motivated. Both the external pressure of being a teacher and efforts towards self-improvement of English language skills seemed to work interactively in the teacher’s mind. On the other hand, the student had a relatively positive perception towards the teaching profession but did not seem to realise fully the significance of self-improvement. Therefore, it is important to consider how to motivate university students to realise the essence of specialty and to build expertise as an English teacher
through teacher training. |
